Netbook vs. Smartphone: The Great Debate

Netbook vs Smartphone: The Great Debate:

For the past year I've been drooling over the awesomely small-sized netbooks. I especially appreciate their latest keyboard and netbook lid designs.

So, the above paragraph described my lust for a netbook but now let's look at what I currently own:

For almost a year now, I've owned a BB (Blackberry) Curve 8330. I have a combined voice and data plan from Bell that's $45 plus fees, plus a $15 combo that includes a VM (voicemail), CallerID (which alone would be $7 monthly) and 2000 text messaging where I think I never went over 100 incoming or outgoing texts monthly.

Oh right, the combined $45 voice and data plan consists of the following:
•Weekends are free for incoming and outgoing calls
From Friday night until early Monday morning
•Weekday incoming and outgoing calls at 5pm are free
•Daytime minutes: 250 + 50 monthly
•Web browsing + emails: 500MB monthly

Other than the extra system access fee of $7 monthly, I think it's an okay plan.

My monthly total does come up to $75. But remember that's because I have a combined data and voice plan for $45, a combo of VM, CallerID and 2000 texts for another $15 and a system access fee of about $7. So $67 + taxes (Quebec taxes) equals $77.05 but I think I get a $2 discount because I have my bills sent to me via email instead of snail mail.

Okay, so if I have a Blackberry and I'm satisfied with the service, why would I want a netbook for? Well below I've listed my Pros and Cons of my Blackberry:

Blackberry Pros:
•Instant access to all my email accounts
•Instant Web surfing while standing in line at the store or waiting for someone in the washroom is awesome
•SD card holds almost 4GB of music. Actually I only use 2.7GB for music and I leave the rest open for my Documents
•I love to journal and blog so my Word To Go makes it easy for me to record my thoughts at anytime since I carry my Blackberry everywhere.
•Here's a more obvious reason: To use it like a regular cellphone : D
•The cute cases I can fit on it :D
•I never used it but the Voice Notes to record my professor's lectures. Well, maybe I can use it like a karaoke player! Whoa! I never thought of that! Cool : D
•Whenever my friends or family can't remember a name of a celebrity, TV show, recipe etc, I can look it up instantly!
•I haven't used it but I was told that I could use my BB as a modem to connect to the Internet for a laptop or netbook.

There's probably more reasons but I can't think of any at the moment...

Blackberry Cons:
•People say it makes me anti-social but how can it when I'm using social networks like Facebook? Just joking, I know I can get carried away with it sometimes.
•Lately, I've been wishing that my BB's screen was larger like the iPhone or BB Storm.
•Wish that I had a bluetooth keyboard to use in class. Wait a minute! I have one from my old LifeDrive!!! Maybe it'll work?
•I wish the screen would change orientation when I change the angle like my Canon Powershot does : )
•I wish some of the keyboard shortcuts were more intuitive like my previous Moto (Motorola) Q was.

I think that's it so far but doesn't the Pros definitely outweigh the Cons in quality?

After taking a look at my BB Pros, I noticed that a Netbook would only match the blogging + journalling part that I already do off of my BB. I definitely wouldn't take it shopping. Like why would I waste a bag for the netbook when I would need it to put my purchases in??

And yes, I would use a netbook for surfing the Internet and emails but it wouldn't be instant like how I can just wip out my BB and check my emails while standing in line.

And for my BB Cons, the netbook would only satisfy my issue that I started to have about my BB's screen size.

So I guess the verdict is, just get a BB Storm or another smartphone wth a similar screen size. And since I already have a bluetooth keyboard I should try to sync it with my BB + bring it to school.

I'd also like to hear from you guys + gals about which one would you prefer to use on a portable and daily basis.

Til next post, take care and have a Happy New Year : )

P.S: Just Google "Netbooks vs. Smartphones and you'll find a bunch of pages discussing the topic.

Which Personality Type Are You?

A few days ago at work I was really interested in figuring out if there was a list of personality types and what their names were. Well I found this lovely site called PersonalityPage.com and it has a lot of information that I can easily read off of my Blackberry.

I'll just list a few things I found out about all the personality types out there:

  • There's 16 personality types

  • The 16 are based on works from both Carl G. Jung, pioneer psychologist, and of Isabel Briggs Myers, creator of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

  • Cool huh? Google those people! I would because they've contributed a lot to our understandings of ourselves and the people around us.

Below is the introduction to the above website:

We all come in different SHAPES and SIZES.
We all have STRENGTHS and weaknesses.
What's right for one person may not be right for another.
There are things that are important to me, that you don't care about at all!
And sometimes your behavior doesn't make any sense to me.
But I want for us to understand each other, and communicate well, because we live together in the same world.
I know I can't expect you to want the same things that I want.
We are not the same person, so we will not always see things the same way.
I have my own Thoughts and my own Ideas, that may or may not fit into your vision of who I should be.
By learning more about my own Personality, and about other Personality Types, I can come to a better understanding of my strengths and weaknesses.
I can improve my interpersonal relationships, realign my expectations towards others, and gain a better self-knowledge that will help me define and achieve goals.

Ugh! I just want to watch my Youtube videos!

Has anyone asked themselves the question from the subject line?

Well, I have! Obviously! Ok, so here's the story:

I'm not that much of a diehard, hardcore Youtube user but I am one music video watcher of MuchMusic VideoVibeFlow and other MV shows like that. Normally what I do is I'd either invite a friend over to watch and critic the MVs or I exercise to them off of my Mini-Stepper... While I'm exercising I usually have my Blackberry near by and I e-mail myself my MV list so that later on or the next day all I have to do is copy + paste the titles of songs and names of musicians into the Youtube search engine and that's how I create my playlists.

So adding music videos isn't a problem... It's trying to watch them afterwards...

Remember how I said I sometimes exercise in front of the TV to MuchMusic's MV? Well, sometimes the b/f is playing video games or is sleeping so I have to move my Mini-Stepper to the office and watch my Youtube playlist off of the computer monitor.

While a I'm exercising, I don't really want to man-handle my YouTube. I just want to click on Play All and let the music flow while I focus on my gluts!

But no, for some reason one or two music videos will say:

"This is a private video. If you have been sent this video, please make sure you accept the sender's friend request."

WTF? I'm not a diehard YouTube user and I'm not going to start adding friends to my list like as if it's a Facebook account. I just want to add music videos!

    Or

"This video cannot be played in this country. Copyright blah, blah, blah..."

Yeah ok guys, don't allow diversity appear for anyone outside of your country!

The worst part is the private MVs are of Britney Spears 8D

And the copyrighted MVs are for... Ah, I don't remember. But when I do I'll definitely post it here!

Because my bio-mom always tells me that if I have a problem, find a solution: Well, I haven't tried it yet, it might not even work but it might help:

Oh right this solution is for copyrighted videos:

YouTube Video Not Available in Your Country? How to Watch Blocked Videos on YouTube

Anyway, I have about 7 minutes left of my Mini-Stepping so see yah!
    So, of course

Can`t sleep so I`ll blog about Prison Break and The Legend of Zelda.

Read at own risk, slight spoiler so um, either watch Prison Break`s first two seasons before reading this blog or just continue to read and be spoiled! ;)

While trying to sleep in my new apartment (yeah, I moved again...) my mind was racing a mile a minute but the one thought that kept reoccurring was how similar Michael Schofield and Link are peculiarly similar.

I`ve been re-watching Prison Break with my boyfriend (who I moved in with. I`m so in love :) So far we`ve reached the end of season 2. Some parts of the show I remember and other parts have stayed in my brain since the episodes first aired!

Anyway,so Michael Schofield is the main character in the Prison Break series where he tries to break out of prison (no duh!) to rescue his brother who has been wrongly accused of murdering the Vice President`s brother. And Link is the main character in a popular video game series called The Legend of Zelda where he`s a regular boy minding his own business then he finds out he`s the hero of legends past who has to save the world of Hyrule!

So here`s my comparison. Michael Schofield seems to be a quiet man. Although he`s a genius who later becomes hardened from his trials of saving his brother part of his personality is still child-like. The way he expresses his hopes and dreams of justice just seem too innocent but not in a tacky way. I find that part of his personality is what Link`s character is exactly what it`s suppose to be.

In the popular video game series, Link does not say a word so part of his personality is left to the gamer`s imagination. And according to my imagination Link is like everyone else where he has issues about being the so-called hero of time but yet with the help and encouragement of his fellowmen he presses onward to complete his ultimate mission.

In the Prison Break show you get to see Michael Schofield`s romantic interest. Although it seems like they can never truly be together kind of like Romeo and Juliet, he`ll still sacrifice his freedom for her just so she doesn`t have to experience the same pain that he felt while in prison. Link shadows Michael Schofield`s traits by never giving up to save his people especially Zelda. It`s been debated whether or not Link and Zelda are romantically linked but if you watch the TV cartoon from back in the 90s it`s pretty obvious that they are dating but never get a chance to give each other a romantic kiss. Anyway, I`m focusing this blog on the video game series not the 90s cartoon. After Link meets the Princess Zelda and predicting her destiny he`ll always fight to make sure her kingdom doesn`t fall. Wow! That`s also romantic.

PAYPAL WARNING: I've just been phished!

    Hi all,

This is just a warning where if you've received an email that looked like it's from PayPal it probably wasn't.

The email asked me to add a debit card because it would help them to identify me whenever I used my credit card online because, according to the email, that people have been stealing credit cards and opening PayPal accounts with them. I almost bought the email right before I right clicked the email's link that it wanted me to use to add my debit card information and it was http://www restore1 us/. I don't want to write the actual link just in case someone accidentally clicks on it.

Anyway, I went to my PayPal account to see if the email's claims were true. PayPal didn't have any pages dedicated to opening a debit card account so I then went to their link about fraudulent emails and here's the link if you think you've been a victim of a phishing scam:

    Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Emails

I forwarded the phishing email to PayPal and they sent me a quick response saying that my instincts were right.

Whether it's a call, email or snail mail, try to confirm whatever the message claims. It could save you from a lot of pain.

Whoa! I just sold my fridge, washer and dryer!

So I'm moving again. It will be move #5. And again this move seems to be going smoothly. I was a little stressed because I couldn't seem to find any buyers until a nice good old American man who's a project manager for a telecommunications company stumbled upon my online craiglist's ad. And he wanted all 3 appliances! And he even had 3 other guys move them all out within half an hour. I did only sell them for $250. But that's okay. After I sell my stove to my future brother in law I'll get all the money back from when I first bought the appliances. I'm super happy!

What does Nintendo mean to you?

Whoa! I Googled the definition of the Japanese word Nintendo and I stumbled upon the below link and of course one of the comments stood out to me. Just a little warning there is adult content.

    http://www.destructoid.com/miyamoto-wants-to-know-what-does-nintendo-mean-to-you--30449.phtml

comradetrotskii: Nintendo was pretty much a defining part of my childhood. Friendships were formed and solidified around Nintendo consoles and exchanging/talking about games. Friendships were broken around whether Nintendo was better than Sega. Nintendo is still to this day an important part of my life, whether it be humming a Zelda tune while walking up the road or enjoying some drunken multiplayer. And unlike my father Nintendo has yet to walk out.To me Nintendo is more than just a games company its an integral part of my life, something that has been there constantly since I was about 7 years old. I'm not ashamed to admit that, and I hope that it is always the case.comradetrotskii: I really dislike my last comment. What I was trying to say is that Nintendo has been a constant since my childhood. Like a best friend since childhood, sure you've had ups and downs with him but you know they will always be there and you can't really conceive of life without them. While you have both grown up a bit you still share the same childish immaturity that you always had. Most gamers on the wrong side of 20 will hopefully agree there.Sony is more like your first shagging partner and Xbox her younger sexier sister. As much as you love these two you'd still rather spend most time with your good friend, unless you are really horny.I'm pretty sure that came out all wrong.

    Just testing out my Blackberry

Yeah that's right I got me a new smartphone! A Blackberry Curve 8330. Unfortunately I killed my Moto Q by cleaning it a bit too far. So sensitive those buttons can be! Anyway, right now I'm sitting inside a billard (a place to play pool). I think I've waited at least half an hour just to order some food! Oh well- Oh wait a menu just came yes! Okay enough of my restaurant's pet peeves and more about what's going on in my life:

I think I want to go pro playing pool! Umm, not really but that would be definitely interesting. Actually I do want to change careers from testing out software to taking care of children either at a daycare or be like an aid for a teacher.

Sometimes I sit at my computer desk thinking how is what I'm doing bettering my community? Umm, I don't think bettering is a word but I just made it a word. Anyway, the way I see it I`m only bettering my world.

Taylor Swift's Love Story + TLoZ

I love The Legend of Zelda games!
And Taylor Swift`s Love Story music video.

I need to make a list of why I love that game but I first loved the old 90's cartoon and when they took it off the air I focused my attention when I heard Nintendo was making it into a game. I fell in love with the graphics and the storyline of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past game.

Anyway, I just saw Taylor Swift's Love story music video and all I could think about was how I'd love it if the future Legend of Zelda live action movie had elements of Taylor's music video.

The music video is set in the time where royalty would have women dressed in those medieval dresses that I completely adore. At the beginning she's wearing one looking out of her castle for her Romeo.

I totally think in the future TLoZ movie the Zelda character should be similar to Taylor Swift's character in the mv. And Link should definitely look like the man in the mv as well. That guy sorta was drop dead gorgeous. With his short brown hair and jawline. I wish I was in that video. Also I noticed the time difference they portrayed in the mv. Where Taylor and the guy are in the 21st century and they kept switching back and forth to the century of medieval times. It`s similar to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time game except for it was only a 7 year difference.

Anyway, that was it for my rantings on what the future TLoZ movie should look like. They'll definitely be more posts about it in the future. Til next time, toodles!

    Pimp out my phone

Just like Xibit's show, Pimp my Ride, I want someone to be able to pimp my phone. This mission of mine of wanting to customize my phone probably surfaced when I saw Paris Hilton's latest reality show, My British Bestfriend. All the contestants received a smartphone that was all glittery, pretty and pink.

    Where did Kim2thekiko go?

Whoa, my last post was in October 2008? And it was from an email chain? Yikes, I must've been either too busy to post anything authentic or just slowly abandoning my blog.

Well, I'm back and I want to post regularly. Especially since the first reason why Kim2thekiko.com was born was because I wanted to merge my love for amateur web designing and have an online diary.

Anyway, I'd like to try to summarize what's been going on in my life since last October:

I was working for the awesome software company called
eXplorance (and still am working there :o). At the time I had made arrangements to move out of my best friend's place and move next door to another good friend whom I knew in high school but was reunited after about 8 years by Facebook . By then I was dating the love of my life, Étienne for only 3 months.

I don't think anything else has really happened but of course I'll keep you posted.
